On Thursday, the World Bank has said that their board has adopted a newer plan for aiding China with a loan of low-interest rates amounting to $1–$1.5 billion every year till the year 2025.
This was done in spite of the objections raised by Steven Mnuchin who is the Treasury Secretary of the United States along with many other legislators of the United States.
Mnuchin has told the committee of House Financial Services that the representative of the Treasury who was onboard had been objecting to the plans as he feels that the World Bank must graduate the Asian giant from the concessional loan programs which they have for the countries that have low or middle-income levels.
The strategy lending plan that would last for five years had been published on the afternoon of Thursday after the board of the World Bank had expressed the support broadly for the engagement of multilateral development lenders in the environmental and structural reforms of China.
The World Bank has said that the lending is going to decline with the plan known as country partnership framework being in line with the reforms that had been agreed on the basis of an increase of $13 Billion capital which was agreed in the year 2018.
In the fiscal year 2019, China received a loan of $1.3 Billion from the World Bank. This was down from the amount of close to $2.4 Billion in the year 2017 for the year which ended on 30th June 2018.
The plan is now calling for the gradual decline from the average lending of the last five years which was $1.8 Billion to China.
