There is again an escalation in the tensions between Google and the workers of Alphabet and the parent company itself as there are four employees who have been at the very forefront of a movement inside Google were fired.
These firings happened on Monday amidst the employee rally at the San Francisco office of Google which had taken place on last Friday. This rally was in the support of the employees Laurence Berland and Rebecca Rivers who had both been made to take administrative leave due to their previous protests against Google.
There was a memo which was obtained sent to all the employees of Google on Monday regarding the firings which had described this dismissal as repeated and clear violations of the policies of data security of the company.
The company has said that they had the intention of making it clear that none of the individuals who were fired had been fired for doing something that was in the scope of their work and also added that the employees had been disturbing, accessing and searching for information that had been outside their job’s scope
The activists who were within Google had however said that the policies which were in question are vague and these firings took place as retaliation. The organizers of the protest said that looking at documents which were beyond the jobs scope is something that happens usually in Google.
The policies of Google had been redrafted, and they made looking at a few documents an offence which would invite firing. The policy though has been criticized for being unclear as it stated that the documents in question may not necessarily be labelled.
